The Old Man and the Sea is about an old man, Santiago, who is a good fisherman. He has a young boy who is best friends with him, and they do everything together. The boy always takes care of Santiago. He always makes sure Santiago is in good health, and he always keeps him company also. They are best friends, and help each other do everything and believe in each other all hte time. They talk about baseball, and what team is doing the best. Santiago loves the Yankees, and believes that they can not lose because of their amazing player DiMaggio. The young boy helps Santiago do anything, and makes sure he is always happy. He can not help him with one thing though. Santiago has gone eighty four days without catching a fish. Eighty- five is Santiago's lucky number though, so he believes he will be able to catch a fish on the eighty- fifth day. Santiago goes out on that day farther than any one else, and he catches the biggest fish he had ever been able to get. The fish he caught was a marlin. Santiago was very excited about his catch, and he had to fight the marlin for two days till it died to bring it back to shore. On the way back to shore though, a bunch of sharks attacked and bit chuncks out of his marlin. When he finally got back to shore, not much was left of the marlin he had worked so hard catching, fighting, and bringing home. When Santiago got home, he went with the boy back to his house and slept for a long time. The boy went back to the dock to hear the men saying they measured the marlin, and the marling was eighteen feet from head to tail. Santiago finally woke up and the boy took care of him, only for him to fall asleep again. Everybody around the sea saw what was left of the marlin and thought it was very pretty and could not believe what they saw. The book ended with the boy taking care of Santiago while he was sleeping and dreaming of lions.
