Old Man and the Sea- Manolin the Boy

I enjoyed reading the book Old Man and the Sea, and I really like the boy named Manolin in the book. He never loses hope, he loves to take care of others, and always listens to what others have to say. Manolin is always faithful in Santiago, and never lets Santiago lose hope in his fishing. He looked up to Santiago s0 much, and thought he could do anything. Even though the boys father at first did not like him to fish with Santiago, he knew Santiago was a good fisherman, and he was not going to give up on him. Manolin would do anything for Santiago, and he was not even family. He just loved him that much. He was always taking care of Santiago. He went and got him coffee every morning, and made sure he had food too. Manolin was also always interested in what Santiago had to say, and even if it did not mean anything to him he still loved it because he knew it meant a lot to Santiago. He always kept up on the baseball stories that Santiago read about in the newspapers. He also always knew the old mans favorite players and what team was doing the best right then. He was always interested in what he had to say. With Santiago's old age, the boy was always ready to help him out, and he was never lazy. I always thought the relationship that Santiago and the young boy had was the sweetest thing. They loved each other and were best friends. The boy showed us all that we can be best friends to someone way older than us. Manolin was always very sweet and I think reading this book and seeing all the actions the boy made towards the old man could really encourage someone. We need more people like this young boy, named Manolin, willing to do anything for someone, and listen to people when they need someone to listen to them.
