Old Man and the Sea- Summary

The Old Man and the Sea is about an old man, Santiago, who is a good fisherman. He has a young boy who is best friends with him, and they do everything together. The boy always takes care of Santiago. He always makes sure Santiago is in good health, and he always keeps him company also. They are best friends, and help each other do everything and believe in each other all hte time. They talk about baseball, and what team is doing the best. Santiago loves the Yankees, and believes that they can not lose because of their amazing player DiMaggio. The young boy helps Santiago do anything, and makes sure he is always happy. He can not help him with one thing though. Santiago has gone eighty four days without catching a fish. Eighty- five is Santiago's lucky number though, so he believes he will be able to catch a fish on the eighty- fifth day. Santiago goes out on that day farther than any one else, and he catches the biggest fish he had ever been able to get. The fish he caught was a marlin. Santiago was very excited about his catch, and he had to fight the marlin for two days till it died to bring it back to shore. On the way back to shore though, a bunch of sharks attacked and bit chuncks out of his marlin. When he finally got back to shore, not much was left of the marlin he had worked so hard catching, fighting, and bringing home. When Santiago got home, he went with the boy back to his house and slept for a long time. The boy went back to the dock to hear the men saying they measured the marlin, and the marling was eighteen feet from head to tail. Santiago finally woke up and the boy took care of him, only for him to fall asleep again. Everybody around the sea saw what was left of the marlin and thought it was very pretty and could not believe what they saw. The book ended with the boy taking care of Santiago while he was sleeping and dreaming of lions.

Old Man and the Sea- Fight Against Santiago

Santiago had not catched a big fish, or really any fish, in a long while. He was so ready to catch a big fish, and he was g0ing to do anything to be able to catch one. So one day, when all the fishermen went out, he did again following the same routine as always. This time though, he went out really far where he knew all the big fish would be. Santiago was not afraid of anything, and he was ready to be able to brag about a fish. Santiago was a very courageous man to be able to go sit out there on the sea in his little boat with no-one else, and out farther than any one else. He had not been sitting out there alone for very long, and he had already caught something. Santiago of course was very happy, because something like that had not happened to him in awhile. He knew he was going to have to sit there and fight the fish until it died, because he knew a fish this size was not going to give up for awhile. Santiago really had no idea what kind of fish he had caught, he could just feel that it was a big one. He finally figured what kind of fish it was when it jumped out of water and then back in the sea. It was a marlin! A fish that he had always wanted to catch! Santiago had to sit there for almost two days and fight the marlin. He had to suffer through bad cuts on his hands and bad cramps. Santiago also had to fight against himself because he could have quit so easily because he was hungry and thirsty, but this fish meant a lot to him. Santiago finally fought against the fish long enough that the fish died and floated on water. On the way back to the dock, Santiago had to fight against many sharks eating chuncks out of his marlin. When Santiago finally got back with his fish, not a whole lot of it was left. He was a little disapointed, but at the same time very proud of himself for fighting against so much and being able to bring home a marlin so big.

Old Man and the Sea- My Thoughts

I thought the Old Man and the Sea was a pretty good book. I enjoyed reading it, and it was a very easy read. Most of the things in the book I loved, but there was also some things that were kind of confusing and I didnt really get. The things that I did like about the book were the relationships, the courage, and all the faith in the book. I like how the book showed how important those relationships were, and how much people will do for one another. I also liked how the book showed so much courage, and if you really want to get something done you can get it done. They were never lazy in this book, and they never gave up on anything they were doing. There were times when Santiago could have gave up on getting his big fish, but he did not because it meant a lot to him. He also never wanted to give up because he wanted to show people that he was a good fisher. Never giving up is something that I really love to see and read about, because it makes you want to be the same way. I did not really like how the book kind of left out some information about the book. It seemed to me like I would have got a little more into the book if there were some more details. I would have liked to know the fish Santiago had caught in the past, the boys name and age, and I also would have liked to have known about other people that were in the town besides Santiago and the boy. The Old Man and the Sea was definetaly one of my more favorite books I have read this summer, and I could read it again. This book would also be one that I would recomend other people reading too. It had a good theme to it, and there were also a lot of beliefs in values that I enjoyed in it also. Once again, I thought it was a very easy read, and most people would do good understanding it.

Old Man and the Sea- Manolin the Boy

I enjoyed reading the book Old Man and the Sea, and I really like the boy named Manolin in the book. He never loses hope, he loves to take care of others, and always listens to what others have to say. Manolin is always faithful in Santiago, and never lets Santiago lose hope in his fishing. He looked up to Santiago s0 much, and thought he could do anything. Even though the boys father at first did not like him to fish with Santiago, he knew Santiago was a good fisherman, and he was not going to give up on him. Manolin would do anything for Santiago, and he was not even family. He just loved him that much. He was always taking care of Santiago. He went and got him coffee every morning, and made sure he had food too. Manolin was also always interested in what Santiago had to say, and even if it did not mean anything to him he still loved it because he knew it meant a lot to Santiago. He always kept up on the baseball stories that Santiago read about in the newspapers. He also always knew the old mans favorite players and what team was doing the best right then. He was always interested in what he had to say. With Santiago's old age, the boy was always ready to help him out, and he was never lazy. I always thought the relationship that Santiago and the young boy had was the sweetest thing. They loved each other and were best friends. The boy showed us all that we can be best friends to someone way older than us. Manolin was always very sweet and I think reading this book and seeing all the actions the boy made towards the old man could really encourage someone. We need more people like this young boy, named Manolin, willing to do anything for someone, and listen to people when they need someone to listen to them.

Old Man and the Sea- Santiago

While reading Old Man and the Sea, I really took favor to Santiago. Santiago was a courageous, loving, and very confident old man. Santiago was an old man who had a big heart for fishing. Everything he did every day revolved around fishing, or what he was planning on doing the next time he fished. His thoughts were always fishing, that is what he lived for. He also lived for a local boy who looked up to him dearly. They go fishing together, and the old man trys to teach him everything he knows, which is kind of hard because the young boys father doesnt think that Santiago is a very good fisher, so he doesnt allow his son to go fishing with him very often. Santiago loves the boy though, and keeps taking care of the boy and loving him like the boy was his own. The whole book is really about the big catch that Santiago catches. He had never caught a fish that big, and it was something he knew he would always be proud of. For Santiago's age, he was a very strong and independent man. He faught sharks and other mean fish, just to get his big fish back to land. He was not afraid of anything while he was out on the sea. Out of all the fishers that went out, he was the one that stayed out on the sea the longest, and he was probably the oldest of them all to. Santiago always had courage. The towns people were searching for him, but he didnt care because he wanted to catch a fish that he could brag about when he got back. Santiago is very precise about all of his actions while fishing. He makes sure he doesnt make any wrong moves, because he knows one wrong move can ruin everything. He is always flexible, and he always stayed in the same position for hours. He also believed in luck. He had the lucky number eighty five, and he believed he caught that fish because it was the eighty- fifth day. Santiago really gets into fishing, and he does anything to get a big fish.
